I think my personal favorite version of Tam Lin is still the Fairport Convention one, in part because it was the first I ever heard. The Archie Fisher extended version of King Orfeo, mostly written by Fisher but firmly based on the ballad, is fabulous and worth the difficulty in locating the CD.
